Every summer Winterton is home to a colony of Little Terns, who come there to breed. They start arriving in May and leave in August. It is a lovely to see them flying around and diving into the sea for fish. The RSPB fence of a large area of the beach to protect the Little Terns while they are nesting. Once the chicks are hatched they start to come out of the fenced area onto the shoreline, before flying off with the adults.
